The MS team (and Kate Lawler) picking up the award for small budget publication of the year at the 2005 Daily Mirror/NUS National Student Journalism Awards.
Medical Student is a free newspaper for all of London's 10,000+ medical students. Named Small Budget Publication of the Year at the 2005 National Student Journalism Awards and runner-up at the 2006 awards, it comes out every month and is distributed to major sites at all five London medical schools.
The paper was started in February 2004 as a means for the medics in London to keep abreast of the key issues affecting medics, as well as what's going on with the other four medschools, but it has grown into a great deal more. Medical Student's unique boast amongst ALL large-scale medical publications is that it is the only one run and written entirely by medical students. Whereas some student medical journals have full time staff and a legion of doctors writing for them, MS's team of writers, photographers, editors and cartoonists are all IN medical school. This way the paper is always in touch with the very latest news from medschools around London.
So if you're a London medical student or applying to become one, check out the paper and the site to find out what's going at George's, Barts, RUMS, ICSM and GKT…and to discover why London is the greatest city in the world to study medicine!
Enjoy!
