Often the right hand man of the Editor-in-Chief, and indeed acting as a freelance visitor amongst the other sections of the paper, the Assistant Editor’s role is often a melange of the other roles within the paper, as they work with sub-editors and editors to contribute to the editing and laying out of the issues. Generally concerned with admin work, this is a role that also requires quick input at times when swift decisions need to be made. For those with an eye on the editor-in-chief’s job, deputy editor is the perfect opportunity to learn the ins and outs of editorship.
